How Do I Find the Right Violin?

Ms. S and I have together fixated on the idea of learning violin. Yes, we plan to buy one and both learn how to play. Trouble is, we have NO FLIPPING CLUE what the makings of a quality violin are. Anyone know brands? Or what kind of physical composition I should be looking for? And any good books from which to learn?

I’ve been told I am a fast learner when it comes to instruments. I was a first chair alto saxophone in concert, marching, and jazz band. I have also played soprano, tenor, and baritone saxophones. I can play some pretty basic piano, understand tab and the bass guitar, and learned a few chords on guitar. Got really bored really quickly with guitar and I’m not so great at reading bass clef with the piano. But I have really wanted to learn violin for a long time. And I have an extremely supportive husband. AND a blog in which I can chronicle my progress and frustrations. Right?

Anyway, I think we’re both super excited!
